Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony

The Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony provides an opportunity to respectfully acknowledge our rich culture and heritage as part of the state’s Australia Day celebrations.

The 2020 ceremony took place at 10am at Jezzine Barracks, Townsville, and featured the Australian Defence Force Royal Guard of Honour, Band of the 1st Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, and the raising of the Australian, Queensland, Townsville, Governor’s, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander flags.

This ceremony provided an opportunity to view the Australian Defence Force and recognise its invaluable service to Australia before a traditional 21-gun salute concluded the ceremony formalities.

Following the events at Jezzine Barracks, visitors were encouraged to make their way to Strand Park and Foreshore for the Great Australian Bites experience, with an exciting line-up of local entertainment and a mouth-watering array of tasting plates.

The 2020 Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony and Great Australian Bites were presented by Townsville City Council in partnership with the Queensland Government. The ceremony was assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.
